I'm not too fond of writing blog posts about our system updates, because I'd much rather write the actual code to improve the platform. However, it feels like a good time to give you some insight in what I've been working on the last couple of months.
A fresh new look for the mobile app
The mobile app has had a UI update. We got away from the old blue-ish design and went for a more system app look and feel, adding our own twist to it. We hope you like the new design direction we went for. In the future there will be a couple of extra iterations, because it's still a little rough around the edges.
Besides some graphical updates we also tried to listen to your feedback improving overall stability where possible. There's still a long road ahead of us. The option to keep sharing files even when your device is in standby is forefront development: we appear to be the first app to do this. That means we have to learn as we go, and your feedback is key here.
Improved transfer speed
Some of you have been sending us emails complaining about lower than expected transfer speeds. I've done some research and found a couple of optimisations for the web version of the tool. Especially using mobile Chrome to send files from your phone to your PC should be much faster now!
I'll be adding additional improvements slowly, so that we can keep monitoring the stability making sure we don't break any existing functionality :)
What's next?
That would be a couple of things:
- First and foremost I'm working on an easier way to connect to local devices. Until now you would have to scan a qr-code to make a connection between your phone and your PC, or otherwise would have to get the share url on the receiver device using another medium. This is going to change, allowing you to detect nearby devices automatically, saving you a lot of hassle.
- The mobile app is due for some package updates which should further increase stability. I see a lot of other stuff I would love to improve, one of them triggering Android to see new files that have been downloaded with the app. For some reason it takes a long time for Android to index (and thus make visible) newly downloaded files, leading to some confusion. Some people have been reporting missing files, and so that's something we need to work on.
- Multilingual support! We love to see that such a great amount of users from different countries , but not everyone is fluent enough in English to use our tool. With our recent growth I think it's about time that we went a bit more professional giving you the option to use our tool in your own language.
That's all for now!
I hope you liked reading our product update, and especially hope that it gives you some insight of what is happening behind the scenes. Again if you have any questions, feedback or even feature requests we'd/I'd love to hear them. Make sure to reach out to us!
